5th insurer offers local coverage

The latest regional insurance provider for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will offer coverage for patients of Lutheran Health Network, Neighborhood Health Clinics and other physicians.

Managed Health Services, which is based in Indianapolis and has an office in Fort Wayne, announced Friday that it had been approved by state and federal agencies as a qualified health plan insurer for the Affordable Care Act.

MHS joins Anthem, Physicians Health Plan, MDwise and Coordinated Care as Affordable Care Act insurers in northeast Indiana. Anthem insurance plans will include Parkview Health hospitals.

MHS announced details of its participation Monday. The company said in a statement that its 10-county region will include Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, Wells and Whitley counties. The company said it will offer insurance under the brand Ambetter and that its care providers include “the Lutheran Health Network, Neighborhood Health Clinics as well as many additional primary care providers, pediatricians and specialists.” Ambetter’s network providers can be seen at

MHS is a subsidiary of Centene Corp., based in suburban St. Louis. The Indiana company formed in 1994 and has been a manager of the Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Medicaid programs.
