SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame nose guard Louis Nix III made it a point before the season to make sure he could stay on the field more.
He has lived up to that, staying in for 72 plays against No. 11 Oklahoma in last week's 35-21 loss.
"It's something I've been working on for a while," Nix said. "Since spring football, we talked about me staying on the field more. Going from like 40 to 50 snaps, I think I played like 73 the last game. It's just a lot of improvement with my loss of weight and my conditioning."
Nix, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 342 pounds, said he doesn't like to tell people what is actual weight is, but he said, "it's definitely not 357."
No matter what Nix's actual weight is, he has done what has been asked him.
Coach Brian Kelly said the senior did not have a loaf in any of the plays he was in against the Sooners.
"I usually don't have that many," Nix said. "Just the amount of plays we play, 72 is a lot for a big guy. Having zero is real nice, I usually have probably one, maybe one. None, I was surprised. I looked at the film. I was happy about the loaf part, but my game play can do better."
