Semi fire kills 1 at I-69 rest area

GASTON, Ind. – Authorities say a man died in the sleeper section of a semi that caught fire while parked at an Interstate 69 rest area in central Indiana.

State police said the fire was reported about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday at the rest area about five miles north of the Indiana 28 interchange near the Delaware County town of Gaston.

Deputy county coroner Clarence Brooks told The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/172MpsO) that the man was the only person in the semi and that he was burned beyond recognition. Brooks said the truck was parked along the exit ramp of the rest area about 50 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

State police Sgt. John Bowling says the fire is under investigation.
