Country singer engaged


The Band Perry singer Kimberly Perry is engaged to Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia.

The engagement, which was first reported by The Tennessean, was confirmed by the band’s publicist Tuesday. Perry told the newspaper that she said yes to her boyfriend of more than a year Monday night at her parents’ house in Greeneville, Tenn.

Perry, 30, and her two younger brothers, Neil Perry and Reid Perry, are kicking off their world tour next month in Sweden.

Jolie directing

Universal Pictures has announced that Angelina Jolie is in Sydney, Australia, to direct the survival saga “Unbroken.” The film will tell the true story of Lou Zamperini, a World War II hero and track star who ran in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

The movie, to be released in December 2014, is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption,” which chronicles Zamperini’s life.

“Unbroken” will star Jack O’Connell as Zamperini. The screenplay is being fine-tuned by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Back to ‘Bang’

Bob Newhart has booked his return appearance on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” the network said Wednesday.

The actor recently won his first Emmy for his guest stint last season as Professor Proton. Bill Nye will also appear in the upcoming episode, which is slated to air Nov. 7.

‘Motive’ returning

ABC is sticking with another member of its summer slate.

The network on Wednesday announced it has picked up a second season of the crime drama “Motive,” according to entertainment news website TVLine.

The series joins “Rookie Blue” and “Mistresses,” which were also recently renewed for next summer. Like “Rookie Blue,” “Motive” is an acquired series that first airs in Canada.

In other networks’ summer fare, CBS’s “Under the Dome” and “Big Brother” are confirmed to return, while NBC’s “Camp” has been canceled.
