Wayne's brand-new uniforms almost lasted only a half Friday.
The Generals had ordered the new multi-colored uniforms a while back and the game against South Side was their first time getting a chance to use them.
But some of them were too short on the legs and had knee pads getting exposed, a no-no for the IHSAA.
During the first half of a 15-6 win over South Side, Generals players were coming to the sidelines to get their uniforms adjusted with a tug or two.
It almost became more than Wayne wanted to put up with.
"We had a lot of problems with some of them not fitting right," Wayne coach Robert Brown said. "We have to figure that out because we need to see if we can use them again."
Wayne had its usual uniforms ready in the locker room at halftime, but the problem was they were worn just a night before by the freshman team.
"I was debating it," Brown said of changing uniforms at halftime. "We didn't want to have guys who couldn't play (because of equipment violations).
"I was like I don't care, and we have to wear dirty uniforms. But the officials said we did a good job of trying to keep them fixed, and they let it go."
