Man in wheelchair killed in hit-and-run crash

INDIANAPOLIS – Police say investigators are searching for the car that fatally struck a man in a wheelchair as he crossed a street near downtown Indianapolis.

Officers were called to the crash scene Wednesday night on Washington Street a few blocks west of the Indianapolis Zoo. They found a man in his 70s who was taken to a hospital in critical condition but he soon died.

Witnesses told officers they saw a white car pull out from a nearby business at a high speed and hit the wheelchair as the man approached the curb. Police say the car then drove off and likely has severe front end damage.
