  • Trine University Thunder expects return to winning way
From 2008 through 2012, the Trine football program won 45 of 55 games, an average of nine victories a season. And the beat appeared to be continuing last September when the Thunder began 3-1.
  • Manchester University Spartans turn to inexperienced linemen

Scouting report: The Thunder came up short at St. Joseph’s, losing 24-21 on Gavin Voss’ field goal with 43 seconds to play in the third quarter. The Thunder dominated the stat sheet (417 total yards to 367, 33:13-26:47 time of possession) but couldn’t hit the big play, converting 5 of 19 on third and fourth down. Now, for homecoming, it gets Kalamazoo, which has lost two straight but continues to put up big numbers offensively, averaging 427 yards per game behind quarterback Justin Danzy, who’s completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,210 yards and eight touchdowns. That will present a major challenge to the Thunder defense, which is giving up a respectable 18.8 points and 302.2 yards per game but has been dinged for 65 points and 533 passing yards the last two weeks.
