Car crashes into unoccupied home

While neighbors stood and watched, Fort Wayne fire crews carefully dismantled an older white Camaro that had been buried trunk-first into a porch at the corner of Drexel Avenue and Holton Street late Monday night after a police chase.

The car seemed to have completely missed the structure of the house, which neighbors said was unoccupied. But the porch was torn away, bringing its roof down onto the car, which trapped at least one person inside.

As paramedics took the passenger of the car to an area hospital, utility crews dealt with downed lines and firefighters made the vehicle safe for a tow. A police car followed the ambulance as it pulled away.

Along with police officers and firefighters, members of area law enforcement gang task forces were present at the scene.

FBI officials confirmed that the Safe Streets Task Force was conducting investigative activity in the area, along with the Fort Wayne Police Department Gang Unit.
