Here's what coach Gary Graham had to say after the Komets defeated the Wheeling Nailers 6-2 on Saturday night, to finish their preseason slate at 2-1-0.
(Make sure you check out the highlights video above.)
"I went in there (to the locker room) and told everybody, man to man, that I appreciate them committing to Fort Wayne," Graham said.
"It was a very great group in training camp, the best group I've ever worked with. Everybody was positive and worked hard. We got better each and every day, which is all I asked of the guys. Tonight was the summation of everything. Tonight was our best hockey."
The Komets got two goals apiece from John Dunbar and Mickey Lang, while Chris Auger and Matthew Larke also scored.
Goaltender John Muse, in his only appearance of the preseason, stopped 22 of 24 shots. That included a second-period breakaway save on Jack MacLellan and a diving stop to foil Nicholas Kuqali's shot toward an empty in the third period that brought the crowd of 5,477 to its feet.
There will be tough decisions today, as the Komets cut at least seven players. Graham and general manager David Franke will meet today with every one of the players in camp.
I kind of think the lineup we saw Saturday is close to what we'll see in the regular season, except Mike Vaskivuo (groin) will be on the team.
