Scotts Miracle-Gro adds to rodent control

Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. is buying the Tomcat consumer rodent control business from Bell Laboratories Inc. to help expand its worldwide operations. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Scotts Miracle-Gro, based in Marysville, Ohio, is known for its consumer lawn and garden products. It already has a line of Ortho Home Defense rodent control products. Bell Laboratories makes rodenticides and other rodent control products.

Scotts Chairman and CEO Jim Hagedorn said in a statement Monday that the buyout "is complementary to our existing controls business and fills a gap in our current product offering."

The deal includes the Tomcat brand and a long-term partnership to bring innovative technologies to the consumer rodent control market.
