Blackhawk picks it up in 2nd half

The Blackhawk Christian boys soccer team went through the first 40 minutes of its Class A regional semifinal match against Lakewood Park with no goals Thursday at Garrett.

But fortunately for the Braves, the Panthers didn't have any goals either, making for a scoreless first half.

Then the No. 8 Braves scored three second-half goals in a 3-1 win over Lakewood Park and a berth in the regional finals at noon Saturday against No. 2 Bishop Luers, which beat Westview 7-1 in the second semifinal.

"We just kind of cleaned things up," said senior Aaron Jones, who scored two goals. "The first half was kind of messy.

"(The start of the match) was an adjustment. It is a little bit of a smaller field and a little more congested and less space to play in."

The spot in the regional finals is a first for the Braves program.

"It means a lot to being here, but we are not done yet," Jones said.
