And Another Thing

Compared to some of her colleagues in this deal, she's Bear Bryant.

Oh, no! A woman on the college playoff committee!

There's been much chatter the last few days, much of it of the knuckle-dragging, Oog-want-dinner-now variety, about the inclusion of Condoleezza Rice on the NCAA football playoff selection committee.

A woman! Makin' decisions 'bout football! Why, the very idea!

Well. I have a couple of thoughts about this:

1. Why not a woman? I mean, it's not like the men have exactly been geniuses.

It was men, after all, who gave us the BCS.

2. Have you seen who else is on this committee?

OK, so you've got USC athletic director Pat Haden and former Wisconsin coach and AD Barry Alvarez and even Andrew Luck's dad, Oliver. But you've also got the former superintendent of the Air Force Academy. Have you seen Air Force play football lately?

Not a glowing endorsement for expertise, if you know what I mean.

And then, of course, there's this guy: Tyrone Willingham.

Who, when last heard from, was going 0-12 in his last season at Washington while putting up a .229 winning percentage in four seasons, the worst in school history. This after his stint at Notre Dame, where the Irish were beaten by 22 points or more eight times in Willingham's three seasons and were 21-15 overall, tied for the third worst winning percentage in Notre Dame history.

Yet the Neanderthals have an issue with Condoleezza Rice?

Shoot. Compared to some of her colleagues in this deal, she's Bear Bryant.
