The Journal Gazette will publish wish lists from established, 501(c)3 nonprofit agencies in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio that seek donations to directly assist people in need.

Firefighters serenade Judi Dench at film opening


Judi Dench was serenaded by firefighters as she arrived for the London premiere of her latest film.

Dench walked the red carpet in Leicester Square on Wednesday for the London Film Festival screening of “Philomena.”

Members of the Fire Brigades Union, drinking at a pub after a protest march against pension cuts, spotted the 78-year-old star, chanted “We love you, Judi” and broke into a rendition of Beatles song “Hey Jude.”

‘SNL’ taps hosts

Freshmen hosts will take the stage at “Saturday Night Live” for two upcoming shows, NBC announced Wednesday.

Actor Edward Norton will headline the show Oct. 26 with first-time musical guest Janelle Monáe.

On Nov. 5, actress Kerry Washington will star as rapper Eminem takes his sixth turn as musical guest.

1st SXSW acts set

The South by Southwest Music Festival released its first list of artists for 2014 on Wednesday, featuring acts as varied as New Orleans rapper Vockah Redu, Texas country singer Rodney Crowell and Swedish rock band INVSN.

South by Southwest was created to showcase up-and-coming acts.

The festival also features fringe and experimental acts unlikely to ever make the charts or appear on TV. Austin, Texas’s punk-rock drag queen Christeene is among the artists performing in 2014, mixing a homeless woman’s appearance with explicit lyrics.

The music portion of South by Southwest lasts from March 11 to 16.
