Missing area teen found at shelter

A 16-year-old boy who was missing from Huntington was found safe at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, the Huntington Police Department said early Friday.

Brandon Lee Smith had been last seen at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Huntington. At that time, police did not believe he was a runaway and were concerned for his safety because his health issues could have put him in danger.

Late Thursday, Huntington County Community School employees and about 150 residents met at the Wal-Mart in Huntington to help look for the teen.

Authorities said they later received several tips that led them to the Rescue Mission on Superior Street, police said.
