Study: Employers need health care, IT skills

Northeast Indiana's employers need workers with skills in health care, information technology, engineering and finance, according to study results reported today.

"The Talent Resource Considerations Aligned to Regional Employers" results also showed that businesses and higher education providers could help themselves and each other by talking and working together more often.

Creating more internship opportunities would help employers in recruiting skilled employees and students in gaining valuable experience, the study found. More than 125 companies participated in the summer 2013 survey.

The study, which was conducted by Chorus Inc., was done at the request of the Indiana Senate. The results will help elected officials make decisions affecting post-secondary education.

Results were released by the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana in cooperation with the Northeast Indiana Regional Workforce Investment Board and Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.
