Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly comfortable with Golson situation

As Notre Dame deals with its quarterback issues, coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday he is comfortable with how the situation of an absent quarterback is being handled.

Everett Golson, who started for the Irish last year, is working with quarterbacks coach George Whitfield in San Diego as he serves his semester suspension because of an academic violation.

"He's working hard," Kelly said of Golson. "He's on the West Coast. He's in a disciplined environment, one I'm very comfortable with. He's in contact weekly, either with myself or with (offensive coordinator Chuck Martin). He's in contact with our graduate assistant (Pat) Welch, two or three times a week.

"Just catching up on what we're doing, game plans, staying connected. He's staying connected weekly from that standpoint."
