Fort Wayne man dies in off-road Jeep crash

A passenger who was pinned Monday night after the Jeep in which he was riding overturned on a hill has been identified.

David L. Hitzfield, 52, of Fort Wayne was not buckled in when the Jeep rolled over and died from blunt-force trauma, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Allen County police officers were sent to the 13000 block of Neahlongquah Lane about 9:45 p.m. According to the initial police report, four people were off-roading on nearby trails. The other occupants, including the driver, had minor injuries, county police said.
