Fire heavily damages house near Weisser Park

FORT WAYNE – A two-story home was heavily damaged in a fire east of Weisser Park early Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 3218 Smith St. about 1 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

No one was at home at the time of the fire.

The house has heavy fire, water and smoke damage, the statement said. The cause is under investigation.

The blaze was just down the street from a shooting last week that killed one 18-year-old and badly wounded another.
