No. 7 Cadets sweep Leo in sectional

The Concordia volleyball team advanced to the second round of the Bishop Dwenger Sectional on Thursday with a 3-0 win against Leo.

The Cadets, the No. 7 team in Class 3A, swept the Lions 28-26, 25-23, 25-22 despite 15 kills and 10 digs from Leo junior Emily Wenglikowski.

Concordia will play Bishop Luers, which swept Garrett 25-12, 25-17, 25-18 in its opening match Thursday, in the next round.

Junior outside hitter Kirsten Comment had 11 kills and three aces for the Knights against the Railroaders.

She and Luers play the Cadets at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Bishop Dwenger.

The winner of that match faces the winner of Bishop Dwenger and Angola at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship.

SNIDER 3, NORTHROP 0: Panthers senior Jadalyn Tindall had 16 digs and six aces in the 25-14, 26-24, 25-16 Class 4A North Side Sectional win.

Snider faces DeKalb at 11 a.m. Saturday in the sectional semifinal.

DeKALB 3, NORTH SIDE 0: Barons junior setter Hunter Daub had 26 assists, nine digs and four aces in the 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 sweep.

DeKalb plays Snider at 11 a.m. Saturday in the sectional semifinal. The winner of that game will play the winner of East Noble and Carroll at 7 p.m. for the North Side Sectional championship.

WAYNE 3, SOUTH SIDE 0: The Generals took down the Archers 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 thanks to six aces from Joey Stanford and five kills apiece from Tabitha Gorrell and Demetria Green. Wayne plays Jay County at 12:30 Saturday in the Class 4A South Side Sectional semifinal. The winner of that match will face either Homestead or Huntington North.

BELLMONT 3, COLUMBIA CITY 0: The No. 5 team in Class 3A got 21 kills and 14 digs from Janaya Wilder in the 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 sweep. The Braves play Norwell at 10 a.m. Saturday in a Heritage Sectional semifinal.

NORWELL 3, EASTBROOK 0: The Knights pushed past Eastbrook 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 to set up a showdown with Bellmont at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The winner plays the winner of a match between Heritage and Mississinewa at 4 p.m. for the sectional championship.

FAIRFIELD 3, WAWASEE 0: The Falcons swept the Warriors 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 at the Class 3A West Noble Sectional to end Wawasee’s season.
