Toddler killed when run over by SUV

A 1-year-old boy died Saturday evening after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle as his family members were rearranging vehicles in the driveway of a near-southwest-side home, Fort Wayne police said.

About 6:45 p.m., emergency crews were sent to the home in the 4100 block of Hiawatha Boulevard, west of Foster Park. They found the toddler pinned underneath the SUV, police said.

Firefighters and medics freed him and took him to a hospital in critical condition. The boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. His identity was not released.

No other injuries were reported. Police said they continue to investigate the case.
