Manchester squanders lead to lose conference game

Manchester started hot but finished flat Saturday in a 41-27 loss to Mount St. Joseph at Burt Memorial Stadium in North Manchester.

The Spartans (2-6, 2-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) darted out to a 13-0 lead on the Lions (5-2, 4-2) but gave up 34 unanswered points over the next three quarters. Mount St. Joseph quarterback Caleb Watkins was 26-of-38 passing for 333 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran in a score and had 48 yards rushing in the blowout.

Manchester fell to 1-4 at home.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE 56, INDIANA STATE 10: In Terre Haute, Brock Jensen threw four touchdown passes and Jordon Strangler returned two punts for touchdowns as the Bison avenged its only loss from the 2012 season.

Jensen completed 13 of 14 passes for 186 yards and added 46 yards rushing, and Zach Vraa caught seven passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns for North Dakota State (8-0, 5-0 Missouri Valley Conference).

Indiana State (1-7, 0-4) was limited to 157 total yards and converted just three of 15 third downs as North Dakota State racked up six sacks and 11 tackles for loss.

DRAKE 23, VALPARAISO 10: In Des Moines, Iowa, the Bulldogs capitalized on three miscues to score 16 points late in the fourth quarter and continue their dominance over the Crusaders.

A shanked punt from the end zone gave Drake (4-4, 3-2 Pioneer League) the ball on the 19 to set up the go-ahead touchdown – a 3-yard run by Conley Wilkins – and a fumble recovery led to the clinching field goal. Another lost fumble at the 21 led to a 4-yard TD run for Wilkins, keeping Valparaiso winless in 10 trips to Des Moines.

SAN DIEGO 42, BUTLER 14: In San Diego, Mason Mills threw five touchdown passes as Toreros (5-3, 4-1) handed the Bulldogs (6-3, 4-1) their first Pioneer Football League defeat of the season.
