Suspect in Monday shootings arrested

A suspect sought in the Monday night shooting of two women north of Fort Wayne was arrested nearby Thursday, Allen County police said.

Steven Dale Walker, 34, was taken into custody about 11:40 a.m. in a field off Diebold Road, county police said in a statement.

The statement said county police were in the area of Dupont Estates looking for leads into Walker's whereabouts when an officer spotted him on foot in the trailer park.

Walker led police on a foot pursuit, then got into a car and left, the statement said.

It said police then spotted Walker on Diebold in a blue Lexus, and Walker led them on a vehicle pursuit, pulling into the Carmike movie theater, where he struck a police car with his car.

Walker continued driving through a fence and into a field off Diebold Road, where the car stopped and he was arrested, the statement said.

About 9:10 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 4800 block of Green Meadows Drive, near Dupont and Tonkel roads.

Officers found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. One was in serious condition, and the other was in fair condition. Both were taken to a hospital.
