Verbatim: Semi accident on I69 in Steuben County

A report received Tuesday morning from the Steuben County Sheriff's Office:

On November 5, 2013 at approximately 5:32 AM Cecil M Rudley (41 year old male from ColumbusOhio) was traveling Northbound on I69 in the area of the 354 mile marker.

Cecil advised that he became ill and lost control causing his 2013 Volvo semi and trailer to go off the roadway into the median.

The semi then struck the cable barrier causing the semi to roll over onto its side. The cable barrier was able to prevent the semi from proceeding out into oncoming traffic.

Cecil was not injured in the crash and was able to get out of the semi on his own prior to rescue personal arriving on scene.

The crash happened at the south end of the construction zone for the resurfacing project for I69.

There was a lane closure already in place for the southbound passing lane.

This lane closure was extended for a short distance to the south in order to ensure scene safety while the semi is unloaded and removed from the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Angola Fire, Steuben County EMA and Indiana Department of Transportation.
