Moped rider badly hurt in crash

A moped rider was badly hurt in a collision with a car Tuesday evening west of downtown, according to Fort Wayne police.

Investigators believe the car was on Watkins Street when it turned left onto Main Street in front of the moped that was headed east on Main, police said in a statement.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection just before 6 p.m. The moped rider, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. His identity was not released.

The crash is under investigation.
