House fire starts in bedroom

A house southwest of downtown Fort Wayne had moderate fire and smoke damage after a blaze Friday afternoon, officials said.

Firefighters were called to 1023 Home Ave. shortly after 2 p.m. When they arrived, they found smoke coming from the front and back of the two-story house.

A resident and pet got out of the house safely, according to a statement issued by the department.

It said the fire was in a first-floor bedroom and the cause has not been determined.
