Rollins led Miami in steals with 58, and six other RedHawks had 25 or more steals last season. Atkins was very good with the ball last season, committing only 74 turnovers in 35 games, and coach Mike Brey said Jackson has proved to be effective getting out of traps during preseason practices.
The skinny: Tonights game is the season opener for both teams. The series is tied 4-4 with Miami winning four of the last five games, including the most recent meeting on Dec. 8, 2001. The Irish havent defeated the RedHawks at home since a 68-36 win Dec. 9, 1944. Notre Dame forward Zach Auguste, who missed both exhibition games with a broken hand, is expected to play tonight. Irish sophomore forward Cam Biedscheid didnt play in either exhibition game and is contemplating taking a redshirt year to preserve a season of eligibility. Former New Haven standout V.J. Beachem is a freshman at Notre Dame.
