He'd be a signing parallel to Marino and lang but wouldn't be any help this year. He took a puck to the face that took 20 stitches. He has to wear a full cage face mask now and would be IR. I'd give him a shot next year if he doesn't require plastic surgery.

Whoa, that sucks. Costello has great numbers where ever he has been. Sucks he got hurt. I had heard he was in st Charles because his wife/gf works in St. Louis.

I am no expert and no don't want to coach, manage, or play but it seems blatantly obvious that the Franke's are woefully out of their depths! They are grasping at straws with signings, refuse to change their model to this type of league, and are promoting the venue with what brought success 10 years ago. They are so out of touch with this league and their fan base right now that we should hope that the K's don't end up in the FHL or SPHL when their obligation is complete with the E! Until we get a real GM none of this will change, not saying you have to fire David but he is not a GM at this level.

"Chill coach basically said to a reporter on Twitter that Costello wasn't dedicated to the team and community there in St Charles and that's why he was released"
I did some digging and asked some questions about Costello....orangekoolaid....I am hearing Costello might continue to play elsewhere.
Curious if you know for sure if Costello is not playing this year or not.

I know this was covered last season but can't remember what the actual answer was. Very curious as to whose choice this typically is...the waiving and signings during the season. I mean I know the GM has to ok all the final decisions...but in general I wonder if David is making these movements basically on his own or if Graham is the main guy behind these decisions. I think last season it seemed David was behind alot of things and wouldn't back down or give more control back to coach regardless of how sucky things got. Don't understand this waive at all. Reminds me of some of the stuff that made no sense last year.

My source on Costello was from the Chills organization themselves and not some speculation blog bent on the juiciest sounding third party rumor. I could be wrong, I hope I'm not, but could be also have been a punch to the face deserved BC of locker room issues. Here's my source, http://stcharleschill.com/news/index.html?article_id=44

@hit, thanks though for the digging. I didn't give respect to his impressive numbers vs early release If it were fantasy football, I would have stashed a player like him on my IR to use later. Character, as you emphasize with evident fact, seems to be in question.

If I remember right, you cant waive an injured player... So I would think Costello would be able to go....
Which raises more questions about Follmer....

Two different points I'd like to make. Let's start with Costello first.
Chad Costello has scored everywhere he's gone ( including two pretty good seasons with Colorado (both in the CHL and the ECHL). Although he's only 5'9", ( that will initiate plenty of criticism), he is only 27 years old. For as long as I've read about him, rooted against him, and watched him, it surprised me he wasn't older. I'm not sure why St. Charles let him go. For the most part, I don't care. Remember Vaskivuo was let go by Rapid City. That worked out OK, didn't it? If he was in Europe and wanted to come home, would we just ignore him? Players leave for lots of reasons. Plenty of players have had to play with full masks on, so I wouldn't be too concerned with the stitches.
If I am the GM, this is a move I'd jump on. It is worth exploring and I couldn't and wouldn't let it slide. Sometime people need a change of scenery, plus he will make you better upfront (his +/- isn't terrific but it isn't terrible either). The whole idea that another team released him may just wake him up and motivate him.
This is where the GM earns his money. Always make the team better. If he costs you a "veteran" spot, so be it. There are vets on this team that could go, along with their salary cap commitment.
As far as Follmer: If he has been released, gambling that he'll go to Bloomington to get in game shape, then brought back, well, it's a chance you may want to take. But if he's been released with no plan for his future, then it's just been a waste of time.
On both players, I hope we're smarter than I'm afraid we are. This is another opportunity to prove to the roster that no one's job is safe.
Purely on the business side, I think the signing of Costello could be good for ticket sales and maybe provide some anticipation and excitement to the fans.

From someone I was talking to last evening....
Yeah Arizona claimed him on waivers. St. Charles took Costello off IR before waiving him because he was eligible to come off (had been on 7 day IR since 11/2)
If he doesn't sign with Arizona, he is virtually a free agent and can come to an ECHL team....
He was ECHL MVP for Colorado 2 years ago.
I say get him in here.
Thumbs downers are nutzo on this topic. Why would you thumbs down a proven ECHL scorer that has put up points just about everywhere he has been? The Komets could use some more scoring punch....I would make LKS the assistant coach, retire him as a player, and sign Costello.
I know you guys will love this idea.

Hope he comes then. Good work.

They "thumbs down" Costello because they know one of their beloved under achievers would have to go...

Here is what the St. Charles Chill blogger tweeted - quote from Chill coach Jamie Rivers: "The St. Charles Chill organization only want players that want to be here and represent the city of St.Louis and St.Charles to the best of their abilities. It doesn't matter what your résumé is if you're not wanting to be dedicated to your teammates, the org and the City."
It didn't have anything to do with the injury. Had to do with Costello not being dedicated to the team and community!
Very interesting. Arizona has claimed him off waivers, we will have to wait and see if he reports tomorrow or Friday. Arizona has not had a press release on this yet.
