    North Side beat Carroll 4-2 on the road in baseball Friday.The Redskins scored two runs in the first inning, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Keegan Carroll picked up the win, despite allowing 10 hits.

    On a sunny April evening at Canterbury’s softball field, Allie Brumbaugh swung and missed on two straight balls batting left-handed and looked down at the third-base coaching area in frustration.

South Side cruises to victory in opener

Lakyn Gulley scored 22 points to lead South Side to a 66-37 victory over Jay County in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night in Portland.

Gulley made 5 of 10 3-pointers and had four steals for No. 9 South Side.

LaKesha Stephens scored 17 points and had seven rebounds and three blocks for the Archers.

South Side opened the game with a 24-8 run.

Jay County was paced by Catherine Dunn’s nine points.

NORWELL 71, WAYNE 40: Kaycee Strunk led four Knights (1-0) in double figures with 20 against the host Generals (0-1).

Hanna Smith scored 12 for Norwell, and Kaylee Roller and Kelsey Beer added 11 and 10.

Demetria Griffin scored 11 for Wayne.

GARRETT 69, CHURUBUSCO 40: Brandi Dawson had 31 points and 13 rebounds to lead the host Railroaders (1-0).

The Eagles (0-1) didn’t have a player score in double figures.

WHITKO 66, CENTRAL NOBLE 44: In Albion, Whitko (1-0) recovered from an early 17-10 deficit by going on a 35-17 run.

Central Noble (0-1) was paced by Tiffany Simcox’s 14 points and Kennedy Forker’s 11.

BLACKFORD 39, BLUFFTON 22: In Hartford City, Maggie Weeks-Foy had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Blackford (1-0), while teammate Lauren Godfrey also had 15 points.

Bluffton (0-1) was led by Ashley Smith’s seven points and Sierra Steffen’s six.
