News and notes

  • A win today would give Purdue its first victory at Penn State since 2004 and end a seven-game losing streak for the Boilermakers. The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series with the Boilermakers 12-3-1.
  • Penn State will be the eighth team on Purdue's schedule that was either ranked or received votes at some point in the season. The Nittany Lions are fresh off a disappointing 24-10 loss to Minnesota and have not lost consecutive games this season.
  • Purdue and Penn State are the only teams to start true freshman quarterbacks this year. The Boilermakers threw in Danny Etling during their 55-24 loss to Northern Illinois in Week Four, while Christian Hackenberg started from the get-go for the Nittany Lions. Etling was supplanted by redshirt freshman Austin Appleby late in the game against the Hawkeyes, which could create some intrigue at the position for Purdue today.
