Big 4th leads Leo girls in opener

– At Leo, the Lions outscored Carroll 24-9 in the fourth quarter to win their season opener 65-61.

For Leo (1-0), Jenna Beer scored 26 points, going 9 for 12 from the free-throw line, and Abbie Heischman scored 16 points.

It was also the season opener for the Chargers, who were led by Madison Peterson, who scored 17 points. Kiersten Murphy scored 11, and Beth Schafer scored 10, going 4 of 6 from the free throw line.

DEKALB 45, ANGOLA 38: At Angola, Baylee Rinehart led the Barons with 14 points, going 8 for 12 from the free-throw line, in their road win over the Hornets.

Angola was led by Claire Grubb, who had nine points.

BLUFFTON 27, MANCHESTER 24: At Manchester, Erin McKinley scored 14 points, Ashley Smith scored 10 and Lauren Stauffer had nine rebounds in the Tigers’ win over the Squires.

WOODLAN 56, BELLMONT 36: At Woodlan, Brooke Gerbers scored 16 points and Haley Hostetler went 5 for 6 from the free-throw line and scored 13 points in the Warriors’ win over the Braves.

The Braves were led by Amanda Hunter, who scored 14 points and went 4 for 6 from the free-throw line, and Courtney Scherer, who scored 11 points.

WESTVIEW 61, WAWASEE 46: At Wawasee, Elizabeth Jackson scored 16 points and went 4 for 4 from the free-throw line and Kylee Rostochak scored 11 points for Wawasee in their loss.
