Golson applies to return to Notre Dame, Kelly says

The process has started for quarterback Everett Golson to possibly return to Notre Dame.

Coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday that Golson has submitted an application to be readmitted to the university.

Golson, who would have been a junior this semester, was suspended from the school because of an academic issue.

"That application process has been submitted from what I know of," Kelly said. "Decisions relative to admissions happen in the middle of December."

If Golson is allowed to return to Notre Dame, Kelly said the quarterback will be able to participate in bowl practices but will not be allowed to play in the bowl game.

Golson has been working with quarterback coach George Whitfield in San Diego.

He started 11 of 13 games for Notre Dame last season, throwing for 2,405 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ran for 298 yards with a team-high six rushing touchdowns.
