Drue Tranquill flips commitment from Purdue to Notre Dame

Drue Tranquill is going to Notre Dame

The Carroll senior linebacker made his final decision known Tuesday after talking to Boilermakers coach Darrell Hazell and Irish coach Brian Kelly.

Tranquill orally committed to Purdue on July 23, but he reconsidered his options after Notre Dame offered him a scholarship 10 days after making his plege to the Boilermakers.

"Man this was the hardest decision I've made in my life, so much respect for both programs!" Tranquill said in a text to The Journal Gazette. "I've decided to play my next 4 years at the University of Notre Dame! I have so much respect for Coach Hazell I've never met someone with such high character. However, I'm ecstatic to go play for coach Kelly at the university of Notre Dame! Go Irish!"

Tranquill helped Carroll to a 9-3 record this season. The Chargers' season ended with a 38-7 loss to Carmel in the Class 6A regional Nov. 8.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Tranquill had 75 tackles with 16 for loss, four sacks and an interception this season. He also ran for 1,420 yards with 28 touchdowns and had 16 receptions for 348 yards with five touchdowns.
