Red Carpet

  • Make the Emmys ‘one-and-done’
There was something embarrassing about the rash of repeat treating on Monday’s Emmycast. It might have left viewers wondering if they had stumbled on a rerun of last year’s show, or the one before that.
  • Not a good night for movies stars at Emmys
The Emmys welcomed plenty of movie stars to television’s biggest awards show, including Julia Roberts, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Spacey, Mark Ruffalo and the reigning Oscar winner for best actor, Matthew McConaughey.
  • Reds, blues dominate red carpet at Emmys
Lena Dunham showed up for the Emmys in an awkward pink confection and Kerry Washington went for a bright orange dress with dark sparkle peeking out from underneath, but it was the reds and blues that dominated the carpet Monday.

Oswalt to host Spirit Awards

Actor Patton Oswalt has been tapped to host the 2014 Spirit Awards.

The Film Independent organization announced the choice Tuesday.

“Patton is an incredibly talented writer, actor and comedian whose irreverent humor is the perfect fit for our show,” executive producer Diana Zahn-Storey said in a news release.

The 29th annual ceremony will take place as a daytime luncheon in a tent on a Santa Monica, Calif., beach on March 1, and will be broadcast later that day on IFC. The Academy Awards are presented the following day.

Actresses Olivia Spencer and Paula Patton will announce nominations Tuesday in a presentation that serves as an unofficial kickoff to the movie awards season.
