Its not clear how his friends knew to help him, or why they pulled him from the beneath his vehicle instead of calling for help, but by the time Travis Muller arrived to the hospital early Sunday morning, he was already dead.
Muller, 21, was driving on North Clinton Street near Brooks Road at about 12:19 a.m. when he lost control and ran off the west side of the road, according to police reports.
The vehicle he was driving – a 2007 white Buick Rendezvous – left the road and struck a concrete culvert. It then rolled several times, striking trees along the way.
Muller was thrown from the drivers seat and became trapped under the vehicle.
A short time later, Muller was picked up by some friends who pulled him from underneath the vehicle and took him to Parkview Regional Medical Center. His friends then left the hospital.
Emergency workers pronounced Muller dead at the hospital and contacted the Allen County Sheriffs Department to advise it about the fatality.
Officers responded to the single-car crash on Clinton Street a short time later, but with Mullers body already removed from the scene, its difficult to say where his body was located and what exactly happened, sheriffs department spokesman Jeremy Tinkel said.
Were trying to put together the pieces and figure out what exactly was going on, Tinkel said.
The vehicle police said Muller was driving had been reported stolen a week ago.
It doesnt look like (Muller) stole the vehicle, drove down the road and wrecked it, Tinkel said. But obviously were looking into it.
An accident report states that Muller was traveling at an unsafe speed across the wet, rural road and that his aggressive driving likely caused the crash.
Muller, of the 4500 block of Craftsbury Circle, had been released from work release Nov. 8 after serving an executed sentence on charges of corrupt business influence, forgery and fraud.
Tinkel said the accident remains under investigation.
Muller is the 29th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013, according to the Allen County Coroners office.
