Pedestrian struck, pinned by vehicle dies

A man died after being struck by a vehicle as he was crossing Stellhorn Road on Tuesday night.

City police responded to a call about a pedestrian pinned underneath a vehicle at 7:10 p.m., Fort Wayne police said.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.

The man’s identity was not released Tuesday.

Witnesses told police the man was trying to cross the road in the 5400 block of Stellhorn Road from the south side to the north side of the road when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash but was taken to a hospital, police said.

The driver’s identity was not released.

Stellhorn Road was closed for more than an hour during the investigation.
