3 matchups to watch
IU defense vs. Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller: Miller is the best dual-threat quarterback in the Big Ten. He is the only quarterback in the top-10 of both rushing yards (74.2 a game) and passing yards (183.2 a game), and he has 20 total touchdowns. Miller is also the conference leader in pass efficiency and has thrown just three interceptions. Those numbers have helped make the Buckeyes the No. 1 team in the Big Ten in scoring offense and No. 4 team in the country. Ohio State is putting up just less than 50 points a game, and it has scored no fewer than 30 points in its 10 wins this year.
IU defensive line vs. Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde: The second big piece to the Buckeyes’ dominant offense is Hyde, who is 53 yards away from a 1,000-yard season. The 6-foot senior has 11 touchdowns this season and is averaging 7.8 yards a carry. He also has two receiving touchdowns. The Hoosiers, meanwhile, are one of the worst run defenses in the country and the second-worst in the Big Ten. IU opponents average 251.1 yards rushing, and the team is fresh off giving up 554 yards rushing to Wisconsin in a 51-3 loss, the most lopsided result of the Hoosiers’ season so far. Hyde led the Buckeyes with 246 yards and four touchdowns in a 60-35 win over Illinois.
IU run game vs. Ohio State defense: To top it all off, the Buckeyes boast one of the best defensive units in the nation. Ohio State gives up just 18.8 points per game and 92.6 rushing yards per game. The Hoosiers have not played well when they can’t get a run game going, and IU will likely be without leading rusher Tevin Coleman again after an ankle sprain against Illinois two weeks ago. For the Hoosiers to compete, Stephen Houston and D’Angelo Roberts will need to play their best games of the season.
Prediction: Ohio State 52, Indiana 38
