    Darby Maggard had 34 points and 12 assists and Katherine Smith had 16 points and 10 rebounds in Canterbury’s 78-65 girls basketball win over Snider at the Panthers’ Kilmer Classic on Saturday.

    Top-ranked Andrean beat No. 3 Bishop Luers 17-15 Saturday in a 3A semistate at Luersfield as the reigning state champion 59ers earned a trip to the Class 3A state finals.

    A Snider team that had gotten to the Class 5A semistate by forcing its opponents into untimely mistakes was eliminated Friday largely thanks to its own errors.

Canterbury girls topple Northrop

– Canterbury got a SAC sweep Saturday at the Snider Kilmer Classic.

After defeating Snider in an early game, the Cavaliers didn’t break pace against the Bruins, cruising to a 60-40 win against Northrop.

Canterbury, the No. 3 team in Class 2A, beat Northrop 60-40 to close out a 2-0 day. Junior forward Katherine Smith had a game-high 24 points for the Cavaliers.

MERRILLVILLE 66, NORTHROP 50: Aleah Swary scored 27 points and hit four 3-pointers in the Bruins’ tournament-opening loss. Swary, a senior, put up 18 of her points in the second quarter to get Northrop into a 30-30 halftime tie with Merrillville, but the Pirates outscored the Bruins 36-20 in the second half. No other players scored in double figures for Northrop.

MERRILLVILLE 75, SNIDER 58: The Panthers trailed by 16 at halftime but made a near-comeback thanks to 30 points from Deja Wimby. She also had eight rebounds, three assists and four steals while going 16 of 21 from the free throw line. Snider got within four points of Merrillville thanks to a 10-point swing in the third quarter, but three Panthers players fouled out to give Merrillville a spark. Four players scored in double figures for the Pirates.

HERITAGE 53, BELLMONT 28: Tattenai Hall scored 19 points and had 18 rebounds and three steals for the Marines in their dismantling of the Braves. Kendall Knapke added 12 points, six steals and three blocks for Heritage.

BETHANY CHRISTIAN 56, ADAMS CENTRAL 38: The Flying Jets shot 23.7 percent from the field in a road loss.

WOODLAN 56, LAKEWOOD PARK 33: Hayley Hostetler led the Warriors with 20 points in a blowout.
