2013-14 film awards season calendar

Film lovers are escaping that chill in the air by ducking into movie theaters to spend a few hours with historical figures, antiheroes and the latest installments from a couple of the darker, superpower-free franchises.

Welcome to the 2013-14 motion picture awards season.

With the Spirit Award nominations for independent films kicking things off Tuesday, here are some dates movie buffs will want to have handy.

Because the Winter Olympics fall in the middle of the season (Feb. 7 to 23), some of the larger ceremonies are happening earlier or later than usual to avoid scheduling conflicts.
