FORT WAYNE – Purdue guard and Northrop graduate Bryson Scott earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound former Bruin led the Boilermakers in scoring during two wins in the week.
Scott had a game-high 14 points six rebounds and four steals in 15 minutes during Purdues 83-55 win over Eastern Illinois on Wednesday. He followed that up with career highs in points (16) and assists (three) in an 81-73 win over Siena on Sunday.
I just try to take it game by game and learn what I can, Scott said after the Eastern Illinois game.
I just try to go out there and play with energy. I try to bring scoring and defense and all types of things off the bench.
This was the first freshman of the week accolade for Scott.
Through five games, he is third among Purdue scorers with 10.6 points a game. He is also tied for the top spot with 1.4 steals a game and is averaging three rebounds.
Hoosiers will head to Maui in 2015
Indiana was among the mens basketball teams announced to play in the 2015 Maui Invitational, which released its competition pool.
Kansas, St. Johns, UCLA, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Chaminade make up the rest of the field. Chaminade hosts the annual event, which is in its 30th season this year.
The Hoosiers have been regulars at Maui since 1990, when IU first appeared in the tournament. The team won the event in 2002and last participated in 2008, Tom Creans first year with the program.
This will be IUs sixth appearance in the Invitational. The Hoosiers are 9-6 all-time in the event.
