Manager at Coney Island now partner

There’s been a change at downtown landmark Coney Island.

But before you get your buns in a twist, James Todoran is assuring fans that the hot dog sandwich will stay the same.

“That’s the beauty of it – nothing is going to change,” he says. “I’m ensuring it.”

Todoran, who began working for the 131 W. Main St. restaurant in 1986 as a dishwasher and worked his way up to general manager, was recently named a partner. The restaurant is also owned by Kathy Choka.

It had always been a dream of Todoran’s to own a business, prompting him to take college courses, and he was waiting for the right opportunity to come. Instead, he says, “It was always right here.”

2 East State stops due

Two new food establishments are entering the East State Boulevard area, offering diners something savory and sweet.

•Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant will open next week, according to a sign in the window of the 2805 E. State Blvd. storefront. The location was previously Lemongrass, which opened in 2011 and closed recently, and an Ethiopian restaurant.

Queen of Sheba will offer Ethiopian and vegetarian fare, along with whole wheat and Ezekiel bread. There will be a vegetarian buffet Monday through Friday.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to paperwork filed with the Fort Wayne/Allen County Department of Health.

•Carousel Ice Cream, 717 Broadway St. in New Haven, is adding a shop at 1937 E. State Blvd. The location is being renovated and should open in January. It will offer homemade ice cream, edible fruit arrangements and dipped strawberries.

Thanksgiving menu

Sara’s Family Restaurant, 5792 Coventry Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, with Thanksgiving meals being served starting at 10 a.m. Specials include turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, a side and cranberry sauce ($10.99); and ham with mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, a side and cranberry sauce ($8.99). Children’s meals, ages 10 and younger, are $4.99.

Pumpkin and coconut cream pie will be available for $1.49.

Around town

•Offering a bar of breakfast favorites, Cereal City is moving into 1533 W. Dupont Road.

•Serving traditional American fare, JoAnna’s Family Restaurant has opened at 10368 Leo Road. The restaurant has daily specials, including a Friday fish fry for $8.99. Hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The location is the former spot of the short-lived Hala Grill, which closed recently.

•A new Dunkin Donuts has opened at 10096 Illinois Road.

•Happy’s Pizza, 204 E. Rudisill Blvd., has closed. The 3205 E. State Blvd. location is still in operation.
