Moped rider hurt in crash dies

A 31-year-old moped rider critically injured in a crash with a car earlier this month west of downtown has died as a result of his injuries, according to a statement from the Allen County Coroner's Office.

Andrew W. Kunze, 31, of Fort Wayne, died this morning from blunt force trauma, the statement said.

Kunze was riding the moped east on Main Street on Nov. 5 when investigators believe a car on Main Street turned left onto Watkins Street in front of Kunze's moped, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Kunze was taken to a local hospital after the crash, where he remained in critical condition, and he was eventually transferred to Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the coroner's office said.

Kunze is the 32nd traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.
