The Komets had lost back-to-back games since trading their captain, Nick Tuzzolino, to Elmira.
But maybe the bold move is starting to pay dividends.
The Komets defeated the Florida Everblades 4-2 Saturday at Memorial Coliseum, and Fort Wayne was led by the very man it got in return for Tuzzolino – defenseman Jordon Southorn.
He had two goals, and defenseman Joe Hartman and forward Brandon Marino had the others, as the Komets improved to 7-7-3.
The Komets lost to Florida 3-1 on Thursday and they lost 4-0 on Friday at Kalamazoo, Mich., while the Everblades (13-5-2) were able to rest in the Summit City.
Hartman’s goal 8:47 into the first period tied it at 1 and ended a run of 121 minutes, 5 seconds, in which Fort Wayne had failed to score a goal.
After back-to-back Southorn goals, Florida’s Mike Merrifield scored on a power play at 16:11 of the third period.
Marino cemented the victory by jabbing the puck through a crowd at 18:45.
