    Darby Maggard had 34 points and 12 assists and Katherine Smith had 16 points and 10 rebounds in Canterbury’s 78-65 girls basketball win over Snider at the Panthers’ Kilmer Classic on Saturday.

    Top-ranked Andrean beat No. 3 Bishop Luers 17-15 Saturday in a 3A semistate at Luersfield as the reigning state champion 59ers earned a trip to the Class 3A state finals.
  • Snider gets sliced up
    A Snider team that had gotten to the Class 5A semistate by forcing its opponents into untimely mistakes was eliminated Friday largely thanks to its own errors.

Homestead boys top Merrillville

– Sophomore Caleb Swanigan scored a game-high 27 points, and Dana Batt scored 16 points to lead host Homestead past Merrillville 70-41.

The Spartans (1-1) led 26-22 at halftime but outscored Merrillville 24-9 in the third quarter and 20-10 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Merrillville (0-1) was led by D.J. Wilkins’ 21 points.


LEO 79, WHITKO 46: At Leo, the Lions never trailed against the Wildcats in their season opener. Four Lions scored in the double digits, including a double-double from Bryce Beer (15 points, 11 rebounds).

The Wildcats were led by Dylan Cumberland, who scored a game-high 21 points.

DEKALB 43, EASTSIDE 26: At DeKalb, the Barons (1-1) found their first win of the season as the Blazers (1-1) faced their first loss. DeKalb’s Cole Hartman scored a game-high 18 points.

NORWELL 64, ADAMS CENTRAL 51: At Adams Central, Brent Bales scored 19 points to help the Knights (1-0) overcome a game-high 27 points from the Flying Jets’ Hayden Black.


CONCORDIA 60, NEW HAVEN 25: At Concordia, the Cadets (2-1) were led by guard Courtney Smith, who scored a game-high 20.

PRAIRIE HEIGHTS 59, WAWASEE 46: At Wawasee, the Warriors (1-4) saw a four-point first-quarter lead evaporate to a six-point halftime deficit. The Warriors were led by Kylee Rostochak, who scored a game-high 20 points.
