A pair of players buried on Notre Dame's depth chart plan on transferring, according to a report.
Cornerback Lo Wood and tight end Alex Welch will pass up a fifth-year of eligibility at Notre Dame, according to Irish Illustrated. A university spokesman said on Monday the school had no statement on the reported transfers.
Wood was expected to start at cornerback last season before tearing his Achilles tendon in training camp. He was unable to unseat KeiVarae Russell, a converted running back who moved to cornerback, this season and fell behind Cole Luke and Devin Butler during the season.
Wood moved to safety in an emergency role for Saturday's game against Stanford. He had four tackles this season.
Welch was mainly used on special team and had one catch in his career at Notre Dame. The senior missed last season after suffering a torn ACL in training camp and was behind Troy Niklas and Ben Koyack this season.
Wood and Welch are on track to graduate after the semester, and the two players should be immediately eligible to play for another program next season.
