Film Awards Season

‘Slave’ continues to collect top nods

The antebellum saga “12 Years a Slave” continues to rack up nominations in the early days of the motion picture awards season. The film received 10 nods from the International Press Academy’s 18th annual Satellite Awards.

In the best motion picture category, “Slave” was joined by “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Philomena,” “American Hustle,” “Gravity,” “Captain Phillips,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “All is Lost” and “Blue Jasmine.”

Among the nods for “Slave” are Chiwetel Ejiofor in the best actor category. Lupita Nyong’o and Michael Fassbender took nominations for supporting actress and supporting actor, respectively. Director Steve McQueen is also nominated.

“American Hustle” had the second-highest number of Satellite nominations with eight. Last week, “Slave” led nominations for the Spirit Awards.

The International Press Academy is a global association of professional entertainment journalists.

The awards, which also include TV categories, will be presented March 9.

Animators make film nominations

The International Animated Film Society has made its Annie Award nominations.

Nominees for the best animated feature film honor are “A Letter to Momo,” “Despicable Me 2,” “Ernest & Celestine,” “Frozen,” “Monsters University,” “The Croods” and “The Wind Rises.”

The nominations might be a predictor for the Academy Awards’ best animated feature category. Those nominations will be out Jan. 16.

The Annie Awards, which also recognize team and individual animation work in TV and video game categories, will be presented Feb. 1.
