Sunday fatal shooting victim is identified

FORT WAYNE – The county's 43rd homicide victim of 2013 has been identified.

The name of Johnny Erick Wiggins, 31, of Fort Wayne, was released Tuesday by the Allen County Coroner's Office.

Wiggins, formerly of Beloit, Wis., was found shot behind the 3100 block of Central Drive, about two blocks east of South Anthony Boulevard, just after 3 p.m. Sunday. He died at the scene, according to the coroner.

All but two of the county's 43 homicides have occurred within the city of Fort Wayne this year. It is unlikely the community will escape setting the 1997 record of 44 deaths by homicide.

In August, the body of 51-year old Steven Dwayne Turner, was found inside a burning car and the police identified his death as suspicious. The county coroner's office has yet to rule on the cause and manner of his death.
