Gratz resigns in Bloomington

Fort Wayne-native and former Komets goaltender Brian Gratz resigned as coach of the Southern Professional Hockey League's Bloomington Thunder after a 3-9-0 start this season.

It bears mentioning that Gratz and Komets coach Gary Graham are friends and that the Komets are without an assistant coach.

"We're extremely close and have been friends forever," Graham said. "We have the same passion and thoughts about the game. It was awesome to work together as coaches when he was here for our training camp.

"I'd be open to it, but it's out of my pay grade. It's a management question. We're focusing on the road trip (to Elmira) right now, but I'm sure it will be discussed in some form."

Komets general manager David Franke couldn't be reached for comment.
