Gunman handed 6 years in holdup

A Fort Wayne man who admitted to robbing a gas station at gunpoint in June received a six-year prison sentence Tuesday.

Chad A. James, 22, and another man walked into the Doc Ricker’s gas station at 7418 S. Anthony Blvd. just after 1 a.m. June 4.

Both men were armed with handguns, according to Allen Superior Court records.

James, of the 6300 block of South Calhoun Street, pointed his gun at a clerk and demanded cash and cigarettes, making off with a little less than $300 and four packs of Newports.

Fort Wayne police arrested James within 10 minutes of the holdup several blocks away.

James eventually pleaded guilty to a felony count of robbery as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Allen Superior Court Judge Wendy Davis sentenced him to six years in prison, giving him 36 days credit for time served in jail.
