Ex-dental employee charged with theft

A former employee of Hughes Dental Group in Leo-Cedarville faces a felony theft charge, accused of stealing more than $5,000 in cash deposits from patients.

Carolyn Salisbury, 43, was tasked with collecting payments from patients for Hughes Dental Group, 13919 Amstutz Road, and entering them into the patients’ account by computer, according to court documents.

Between July 11, 2011, and April 19, 2013, Salisbury stole the cash deposits or a portion of the deposits, documents said. She entered the cash payments into the computer and gave customers receipts before deleting them from the computer and making the deposits, the documents said.

Salisbury would keep the cash, but after the deposits were made, would input the customers’ payments back into the computer, according to court documents.

Investigators later determined that Salisbury, of Kendallville, had stolen $5,069. Salisbury had not been arrested as of Thursday.
