Late season for Canada goose hunting set

Ten northeast Indiana counties are among 30 counties involved in a late season for hunting Canada goose, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said today.

The season is from Feb. 1 to 15 in the counties, which include Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley, the DNR's Division of Fish & Wildlife said in a statement.

The season helps control the population of the breeding "giant" subspecies of Canada geese around urban areas, the statement said.

It said a valid hunting license, Indiana waterfowl stamp privilege, signed federal duck stamp and a Harvest Information Program number are required. No special permit is needed, and birds no longer need to be checked. The bag limit will remain five.
